Embrace Pet Insurance is a leading insurance company founded back in 2003. Unlike many other pet insurance companies, Embrace doesn’t just offer coverage for accidental injuries and illnesses, but also for wellness and preventive care. This is one of its biggest selling points among pet parents, as per Embrace Pet Insurance reviews.

Embrace is currently ranked as one of the best health insurance companies in the United States and is a proud member of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association. It administers health insurance by the Embrace Pet Insurance Agency, LLC, and is underwritten by the American Modern Insurance Group, Inc. Insurance providers including Allstate, USAA, Geico, and American Family also sell their services to Embrace Pet Insurance.

Where is it Available

Embrace Pet Insurance policies are available in all 50 states of the United States of America. However, the discounts are not. Make sure to check if your state is eligible for one.

Embrace Pet Insurance headquarters are based at 4530 Richmond Rd Cleveland, OH 44128.

Types of Coverage

Embrace offers a wide range of pet insurance for cats and dogs with a number of customizable coverage options. The insurer offers a core accident and illness plan that provides reimbursements for treatments that are not a result of intentional or pre-existing conditions.

You can customize your options with five different limits, reimbursement percentages, and deductibles.  Embrace Pet Insurance reviews show that clients are extremely happy with the freedom they’re allowed to make their own plan.

Embrace also offers an accident-only plan, although it’s not flexible – pet parents will have to suffice with a $5000 limit, 90% reimbursement, and $100 annual deductible.

Although it does not offer lifetime pet insurance policies with unlimited benefits, it still has very high-limit options, with annual reimbursement limits going as high as $30,000. However, this will significantly raise your monthly premiums.

Here are some of the things that Embrace’s comprehensive pet insurance policy covers:

Accidents: If your pet is injured in an accident, Embrace has you covered. Pet accident insurance includes ingesting something poisonous or getting hit by a car. The coverage will also take care of the vet and consultation fees.

Illnesses: Embrace Pet Insurance will help your cat or dog if they fall ill, without any limits or exclusions.

Breed-Specific, Genetic and Hereditary Conditions: Embrace also provides coverage for illnesses and conditions like intervertebral disc disease and hip dysplasia, especially if your pet is of a breed prone to them.

Pet Chronic Conditions: There is no limitation on coverage if your pet suffers from chronic allergies and conditions like arthritis and diabetes.

Cancer Treatment: Diagnostics tests for pet cancer and its treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgeries, and alternative therapies are all handled by Embrace Pet Insurance.

Surgery: You won’t have to worry about surgery, including the exam fee, administration of anesthesia, overnight observation, medical waste fees, prescription drugs, rehabilitation, and follow up care.

Prescription drugs: Embrace offers pet prescription drug coverage for medication like antibiotics, insulin, ear drops, eye drops, steroids, anxiety medication, and pain killers.

Dental disease treatment: Embrace also provides pet dental insurance for gingivitis, crowns, root canals, extractions, and oral masses for up to $1,000 a year in most states.

Alternative therapies and rehabilitation: Procedures like acupuncture, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, and therapeutic laser treatments are all covered by Embrace Pet Insurance.

Emergency veterinary care: Embrace covers all emergency hospital trips in case of unexpected injuries or illnesses.

Specialty vet care: Advanced care like a visit to an oncologist or an ophthalmologist is also handled.

Diagnostic testing: This includes coverage for biopsies, urinalysis, fecal exams, testing using fine-needle aspirates, and more.

Pet prosthetics and mobility devices: Embrace Pet Insurance offers coverage to get surgeries for fake limbs or carts as well as pays for follow-up visits.

Pet behavioral therapy: It also offers coverage for therapies for behavioral issues like aggression, digging, and marking.

Aside from these, you can count on Embrace Pet Insurance for:

  • Exam fees
  • Lab tests
  • Allergy testing
  • Medical boarding

Embrace Wellness Rewards Programs

Embrace Pet Insurance provides reimbursement for wellness and preventive care claims through optional non-insurance coverage. It acts as savings accounts and has a cap limit of $650 a year.  Keep in mind that you may need to make larger out-of-pocket expenses when paying for treatments.

The pet wellness plans will cover:

  • Wellness exams
  • Vaccinations
  • Preventive medication for flea, tick, and heartworm infestation
  • Prescription diet food, nutritional supplements, and medicated shampoos
  • Dental cleaning
  • Grooming
  • Spaying and neutering
  • Microchip embedding
  • Toenail tripping
  • Anal gland expression
  • Hip dysplasia exams
  • Burial or cremation

What Is Not Covered?

Things not covered by Embrace Pet Insurance include:

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Routine vet care for dogs and cats
  • Pet pregnancy, breeding, and whelping
  • Injuries caused by intentional harm, abuse, neglect, fighting, or racing
  • Cosmetic procedures like tail docking, declawing, or ear cropping
  • Organ transplants
  • Avian flu
  • DNA testing and cloning
  • Stem cell therapy that is not medically necessary
  • Effects of nuclear war

Aside from Embrace Pet Insurance pre-existing conditions and the treatments mentioned above, the company also limits coverage for pets over the age of 14 that are newly enrolled in accident-only coverage. However, pets that were signed up before they turn 14 will not be dropped from the illness coverage once they reach that age.

Embrace Pet Insurance Cost

The pricing of pet insurance plans depends on a number of factors including your cat/ dog’s age, size, breed, gender, geographical location, history of the disease, health conditions, and more. Typically basic coverage starts for just $6 per month for cats and $12 per month for dogs.

If you want to look at an example, an average coverage plan for a 1-year-old dog can cost between $11.35 to $44.11 per month, while for a 12-year-old dog you will pay between $31.13 and $120.96. The coverage for a typical 1-year-old cat will be between $5.68 and $22.06, while for a 12-year-old cat it can cost anywhere from $14.71 to $57.15.

However, the wellness program offers much less budget-friendly options and can cost anywhere between $18.75 and $52.09. If you also want this add-on, keep in mind that it comes at double or triple the price of your standard pet insurance for dogs and cats in exchange for few benefits. In fact, you will only be able to save $25 before you hit your annual limit.

This plan rather serves as a budgeting tool that can help you spread the cost of preventive care over the year. You also need to know that the unused amount is not reimbursed so you can end up losing money.

Additionally, Embrace may also charge you hidden fees in the form of a one-time $25 enrollment fee and a $1 monthly installment fee if you don’t opt to pay for the entire year in advance. This is mentioned frequently in Embrace Pet Insurance reviews.

Deductibles

Embrace’s USP lies in the fact that it offers the best diminishing deductibles in the pet insurance industry. For every claim-free year, the company offers a $50 discount on the deductible in the following term. You can also choose how much deductible you want to pay each year.

The amounts of annual deductible are $200, $300, $500, $750 or $1,000.

Aside from deductibles, the reimbursement percentages are marked at 70%, 80%, and 90%.

It also offer annual reimbursement limits of $5000, $8000, $10,000, $15,000, and $30,000. You may also get unlimited reimbursements if you contact them by phone, though the premiums and deductibles may be higher.

Embrace Pet Insurance Discounts

Embrace Pet Insurance offers a large number of discounts for pet parents and many of these can stack up to 25% off in most US states. Take a look:

Embrace Pet Insurance Claim

Embrace’s claim process is fairly easy. Here is what you should do to file for reimbursement:

  • Go to www.embracepetinsurance.com and download the claim form from MyEmbrace account. Alternatively, you can also download it through the Embrace mobile app, from your enrollment email or call Embrace’s office to email it to you.
  • Add an invoice from your vet office which will verify you made the payments.
  • Send the Embrace Pet Insurance claim form and the vet’s invoice through the MyEmbrace account or the mobile app. Alternatively, you can also mail them at Embrace Pet Insurance, Claims Dept., P.O. Box 22188, Beachwood, Ohio.

On average, Embrace will reimburse you in 10 to 15 days and send you your money through direct deposit or a paper check.

Embrace Pet Insurance Waiting Period

Embrace’s waiting periods are shorter than those of other similar companies. Accident coverage starts a couple of days after the policy begins but you have to wait 14 days for illness coverage to begin.

You may have to wait 6 months for certain orthopedic conditions but if you have submitted an orthopedic report card, the time is cut down to 14 days.

Customer Satisfaction and Financial Strength Review

Embrace Pet Insurance BBB grade (Better Business Bureau) is A+. Its underwriter, American Modern Insurance Group has been given a financial stability rating of A+ from AM Best which suggests that the company will remain financially stable 18 months after an economic downturn. Consumer Affairs has also given it a 4.1-star rating. However, it only has a rating of 3.6 at Trust Pilot.

Embrace Pet Insurance reviews left by clients are mostly positive.

Many customers are pleased with Embrace’s fast reimbursement time for claims. They also praise the customer support department for promptly answering queries.

But it’s not all rainbows and roses. Some Embrace Pet Insurance complaints include unfairly denied claims. A few clients say pre-existing conditions can be an issue as Embrace may deny coverage or payment for any observations made by the vet based on these conditions.
