Types of Insurance Covered and Missing Coverages

Farmers Insurance offers various standard coverage options, including the following:

  • Liability Coverage
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
  • Collision Coverage
  • Personal Injury Protection
  • Medical Payments
  • Comprehensive Coverage

Farmers Insurance also offers a range of optional coverages, including:

  • New Car Replacement – if a new car is totaled within 24,000 miles and two years of ownership, the company will replace the car with a new one.
  • Farmers Insurance Accident Forgiveness – one accident in three years would be forgiven, which means the rate of policy will not go up.
  • Loss of Use – if your car has been totaled or is in for repairs, the company will reimburse you for public transit, cabs, or rental cars.
  • Customized Equipment Coverage – the policy covers any custom parts you have installed in the vehicle, like a new stereo system or chrome rims. You need comprehensive and collision coverage to get this benefit.
  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Coverage – this coverage pays for replacement parts from the manufacturer if the car is a wreck, instead of aftermarket parts. The model of the car should be within the ten years of the current calendar year. You need a collision and comprehensive policy to get this coverage.
  • Rideshare Insurance – Lyft, Uber, and other such companies usually offer limited liability insurance when the app is on. The full auto insurance coverage kicks in when you accept a ride. Farmers Insurance extends the auto policy by offering you coverage between the rides so that you are fully covered while on the job.

Farmers Insurance roadside assistance and glass insurance can also be beneficial.

Another excellent discount program is The Signal. It monitors your driving habits through the mobile app. When you sign up and complete ten trips, you earn a 5% discount on your policy.

This discount increases up to 15% at the next renewal or is based on the driving score you receive by the app. However, the discount can decrease demand for the score.

Comparison With Competitors

In our Farmers car insurance review, we did a comparison between Farmers and a few of its competitors:

Allstate

Allstate offers a range of excellent discounts and perks. Farmers also offer exciting perks, like new car discounts, along with cheaper rates.

Allstate offers multiple discounts, including Defensive Driver, Advanced Purchase, Pay in Full, Telematics, and New Vehicle that are not available with Farmers.

On the other hand, Farmers Insurance has Home Owner and Multiple Vehicles discounts on offer.

Farmers Insurance offers more benefits for drivers with bad credit scores.

If your driving record includes a DUI, reckless driving violation, ticket, or an at-fault accident, then Farmers auto insurance is a better choice.

GEICO

Both GEICO and Farmers Insurance have top financial strength ratings. GEICO offers much cheaper rates than Farmers, but Farmers scored excellent in claim handling.

GEICO offers discounts for Defensive Driver, Affinity Membership Alum, and Military, which Farmers doesn’t.

Farmers customers can enjoy Green Vehicles, Student Away at School, and Home Owner discounts that are not available with GEICO.

For drivers with poor credit scores, GEICO is a better option as compared to Farmers car insurance cost. Drivers with good credit scores can get better rates with GEICO as well.

If your driving record includes a DUI, reckless driving violation, ticket, or an at-fault accident, then GEICO is the way to go, too.

State Farm

Both companies have strong financial stability, although State Farm has a higher ranking. The companies offer bundling options and discounts. State Farm offers better rates as compared to Farmers Insurance.

For drivers with bad credit scores, Farmers is a better choice, but State Farm offers better rates for drivers with a good credit score.

If your driving record includes a DUI, reckless driving violation, ticket, or an at-fault accident, then Farmers is a good option for you.

The claim resolution takes longer with State Farm, whereas, Farmers has scored excellent when it comes to claims handling.

Moreover, State Farm is a better option for young drivers.

Pros & Cons

The Pros

  • Bundle insurance
  • Outstanding discounts
  • Includes accident forgiveness

The Cons

  • More expensive than most competitors
  • Many services apply only to certain regions
  • Can’t purchase a policy online

Final Verdict

Farmers Insurance has a strong history and offers a wide range of auto insurance coverage. If you value claims satisfaction and excellent customer service, then Farmers Insurance is the way to go.

It is not a good option for drivers looking for low rates, as well as young drivers.  The accident forgiveness is a great perk they offer, but only one at-fault accident will be forgiven in three years.

The rates of this company are higher than most insurance providers. Still, Farmers auto insurance reviews convinced us it’s definitely worth it. The cost can be reduced if you opt for bundle options and other discount offers.
